In 2005, the Environmental Working Group published startling results from an analysis of umbilical cord blood from ten infants born in the US in 2004. The researchers found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants, including carcinogens, pesticides, and mercury. In the last twenty years, would you suppose our environment has become more or less toxic?
Sadly, the modern world exposes us to many harmful toxins. Our bodies have systems to detoxify, but when our detox systems are overloaded or compromised, we store toxins like heavy metals. We can only tolerate so much before the accumulation eventually starts to cause problems.
Heavy metals and other toxins exist at three levels in the body: Level 1 is currently circulating in the blood, Level 2 is present in intracellular tissue, and Level 3 is stored in deep tissue cells (most likely fat). At the 10th Annual Biohacking Conference, I learned about a quick, non-invasive test that provides a detailed report of heavy metals and other elements.
The Oligoscan uses a spectrophotometer device, which measures the absorption and reflection of light. Each element has its own spectrum of color. By scanning specific points on the palm of the hand, the device can measure how much light is absorbed and reflected. Based on many years of research, the software analyzes the data and provides immediate results for 44 elements: 21 minerals, 16 heavy metals, and Vitamins A, B6, B9, B12, C, D, and E.
I paid the $130 fee, and the process to use the device on my hand took less than 30 seconds. The detailed report was available immediately.
My Results
Overall, my minerals look pretty good. Due to the relationships between minerals and their appearance in the report, the ideal results would demonstrate a helix spiral shifting from right to left to right, etc. The big red flag was low iodine, which prompted me to get serious about iodine intake. While I plan to incorporate more iodine-rich foods into my diet, I added an iodine supplement to my stack. For those who are curious, I use the product Detoxadine® from Global Healing.
Most of my vitamins are in great shape. Even though my vitamin D level showed less than ideal, my recent blood test result was 61.2, which is in the ideal range.
