I’m Brandon Wilson. I am constantly working toward improving my mind, body, and spirit using various ancient techniques and cutting-edge biohacking tools and devices. I want to be healthy, but not at the expense of being happy. This simple idea is what it means to be wellthy.
First time reading? Let’s get you in the club.
Every year around this time, I hear the same things from people. Have you heard any of these? Have you been saying any yourself?
“Now is not a good time to start anything new.”
“If we can just make it through the end of the year…”
“Once everything calms down after the holidays, I’ll start something new.”
“I already know what my New Year’s resolutions will be, and come January 1st, I’ll be ready!”
“I got out of bed in the morning and wasted money on 10% discounts and can’t spend any more.”
We have about three weeks left in 2024, and we face the age-old question: Should we slow down or speed up? I offer only those two choices because staying the same is a copout and will not work for people who want more out of life.
Maybe you had a banner year and are taking some well-deserved time off. Perhaps you are retired and out of the rat race. Plenty of legitimate reasons exist to slow down, smell the roses, and recharge. However, many times, we do things simply out of habit.
We first make our habits, then our habits make us. —John Dryden
What are most people around you doing? Are they telling you to take it easy because that’s what they’re doing? Have another slice of pie. Don’t miss out on the limited-time seasonal pumpkin-spice-whatever. Forget working out; come to the holiday party! It’s the holidays! Enjoy yourself and get back to business on January 1st. That’s not my message.
Today is January 1st.
If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing now.
The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now. —Chinese proverb
If you have momentum, keep it going. If you need to get started, why wait until the arbitrary date of January 1st? If you have goals and dreams that 2025 will be “the year,” think of how much farther ahead you’ll be if you start now.
I know it’s not an easy path—taking your foot off the gas would be so much easier—but the hard path builds strength and resilience.
There are 22 days left in 2024.
Today is January 1st.
One day or day one. You decide.
The Daily Habit is where I share my habits related to the fundamentals: sleep, diet, physical activity, mindfulness, and stress management.
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is a part of the brain that teaches your brain what to focus on. In this short video, Tony Robbins explains how the RAS works. To leverage the RAS, pick one goal you want to achieve by the end of the year. Write it down on a notecard with an “I am” statement, such as “I am so happy and grateful that I have achieved [your goal].” Every night before you go to sleep, read the statement aloud nine times. Where your attention goes, energy flows!
