Long-time subscribers might remember I wrote about visiting The Wellness Bar in February. I called it Biohacking Nirvana because it offers many different modalities in one place:

  • Infrared sauna

  • Cryotherapy

  • Red light therapy

  • Halotherapy

  • Dry float

  • Whole-body vibration

  • Compression

  • IV therapies

  • Manual therapy

That’s way too much to cram into one newsletter, so I will spotlight one of these modalities, starting with the sauna.

The sauna concept is straightforward—you sit in an enclosed space and get hot. The practice is becoming more popular in the US, but we are far from catching Finland, which has a population of 5.5 million and 3.3 million saunas! It’s no surprise that most of the scientific studies about saunas have come from Finland.

The usual set-up is a heater that heats the ambient air to about 174 degrees F (79 degrees C). Some saunas have heated rocks where they pour water to create 10-20% humidity. The studies showed sauna sessions lasting at least 20 minutes and done 4-7 times per week offer numerous benefits.
