When was the last time you had your bloodwork done? If it’s been more than a year, then you’re due. I don’t blame you for dragging your feet because the traditional process is so annoying.
You schedule an appointment with your doctor’s office. Maybe you don’t even see your doctor. After waiting excessively in the waiting room and then in the exam room, you might see a nurse practitioner or physician assistant. Then, they create a lab order, and you have to schedule the blood draw. You’ll want to get in early before work because you’re supposed to fast for twelve hours. Then, you have to schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor’s office to get the results. Who knows whether any of this is covered by insurance, or maybe you’ll get a surprise bill in the mail. It’s no wonder a lot of people avoid the whole process.
The good news is that there’s a better way. In a previous newsletter, I wrote about various options consumers have for lab testing without all the hassle. I’d like to shine the spotlight on one of my favorite options.
Life Extension, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, FL, offers high-quality supplements, lab testing, and health education. The company has been in business for over 40 years, helping people live longer and healthier lives.
Life Extension is currently offering 25% off all lab testing. The way it works is you buy the test, and they email you a requisition form to take to LabCorp. Within a week after the blood draw, Life Extension emails you the results. They offer a free consultation with a wellness specialist, or you can share the report with your doctor.
One downside to this approach is that Life Extension does not accept insurance. You have to pay cash upfront, but you can use a flexible spending account (FSA) or a health savings account (HSA) to make the purchase.
There are a variety of lab tests, and it can be overwhelming to decide which ones to buy. Life Extension makes it easy by combining lab tests into panels that include all the tests you need.
Here are some examples:
Weight Loss Panel—This panel includes tests for sex hormones, thyroid hormones, stress hormones, insulin resistance markers, and inflammation and general health markers.
Male Panel—This panel includes all the essential tests for men: chemistry panel, complete blood count, ferritin, testosterone, sex hormones, PSA, homocysteine, C-reactive protein, TSH, vitamin D, HbA1c, ApoB, insulin, and magnesium. Over-achievers can opt for the Male Elite Panel, which offers additional tests for steroid and thyroid hormones and a complete iron panel.
Female Panel—This panel is similar to the male panel but also includes tests for female hormone balancing. There is also an Elite Female Panel.
