Jim Kwik is a best-selling author and one of the world’s top brain coaches. His talks are always full of wisdom and practical tips to improve brain functioning and overall health. During one of his presentations at the Biohacking Conference, Jim shared his top ten best foods for brain health, along with a trick for remembering them. How many of these foods are you regularly consuming?

Jim Kwik’s 10 Favorite Brain Foods

  1. Avocado - Helps keep healthy blood flow, is a good source of monounsaturated fats, and is rich in potassium and fiber. Associate with the top of the head. Imagine that someone dumped a bowl of guacamole on your head.

  2. Blueberries - Very high in antioxidant capacity due to flavonoid content. Associate with your nose. Touch your nose and imagine blueberries are coming out of your nostrils. What does that feel like and smell like?

  3. Broccoli - Rich in vitamin K, fiber, and sulforaphane, a compound studied for antioxidant properties. Associate with your mouth. Open your mouth and imagine it is full of steamed broccoli. How does it taste and smell?

  4. Coconut oil - Excellent for cooking at high heat and supports brain function, ketone formation, and fat loss. Associate with your ears. Grab your ears and imagine coconut oil oozing out of them.

  5. Eggs - Whole eggs are like nature’s multivitamins, full of choline, omega-3’s, and vitamin E. Remember, not all eggs are the same nutritionally. Associate with your throat. Imagine an egg in place of your Adam’s apple or your throat surrounded by hard-boiled eggs.

  6. Green leafy vegetables - Spinach, arugula, romaine lettuce, and collard greens are rich in folate, magnesium, and vitamin E. Associate with your shoulders. Look at your shoulders and imagine green leafy vegetables all over them.

  7. Salmon - Wild salmon is low in mercury and rich in EPA, DHA omega-3 fats, and astaxanthin. Associate with your collarbone. Imagine wearing a necklace of salmon bones.

  8. Turmeric - Potent compound high in carotenoids that reduces inflammation, boosts antioxidant levels, and supports the immune system. Associate with your fingers. Imagine dipping your fingers into golden turmeric powder.

  9. Walnuts - Rich in magnesium, vitamin E, zinc, and antioxidants. Associate with your belly button. Imagine walnuts coming out of your belly button. Can you feel them?

  10. Dark chocolate - Rich in polyphenols, stimulates endorphins, and improves focus, concentration, and mood. Opt for 80% cacao or higher and choose a brand tested lower for lead and cadmium. Associate with your seat. I assume you can make the connection on this one.

Let’s practice remembering all ten foods. Top of head, nose, mouth, ears, throat, shoulders, collarbone, fingers, belly button, and seat. Hopefully, it will be easier for you to remember these foods during your next trip to the Piggly Wiggly.

The Daily Habit is where I share my habits related to the fundamentals: sleep, diet, physical activity, mindfulness, and stress management.

Sometimes, the hardest question of the day is what’s for dinner. If you have a bunch of random foods/ingredients and are unsure what to make, use the free website Supercook to get recipes using your ingredients.

I start every morning with a glass of filtered, structured water with BEAM minerals. This is the best mineral supplement on the market, in my opinion. They even have formulations for dogs and cats and a cheaper pill form of the liquid supplement. I provided more details in a previous newsletter. Go to the BEAM minerals website and use code BRANDON51920 to save 20%.

It’s hard to believe I’ve had the Brava smart oven for two years. Yes, I’m still using it several times a week. It’s great for reheating, baking, and cooking proteins and veggies in one fell swoop.
