I just returned from a trip to Detroit, Michigan, and before I get to the summary, I’d like to talk about travel hacks. I’ve provided some travel tips in a previous newsletter, and I’d like to update my list.
What I still do
Fasting during the trip - This is a staple I hold to for the most part, unless I’m in the Nashville airport and get tempted by Nashville hot chicken. Club Member Scott S. brings his food to avoid the processed junk. I should follow his lead.
Stay hydrated - Hydration is even more critical while flying, and I had plenty of Quinton sea minerals® travel packs.
Supplements for the immune system - Besides the usual supplements, my go-to supplement for immune support is ImuRegen. This unique formula has 17 amino acids, nucleotides, and oligopeptides that support the immune system and whole-body regeneration. ImuRegen will be a topic of a future newsletter.
Light cues - Getting as much daylight exposure during travel and resetting at the destination is key. I misplaced my TrueDark amber glasses and have another pair on back order. I travel with the Helight to fall asleep faster in the new environment.
Cover ears - I limit the use of earbuds due to excessive EMF exposure, so I use air tube earbuds like those from Defender Shield.
Wear compression garments - Some people wear compression socks to combat swelling, but I decided to go with a compression shirt and pants, and this one hack has probably helped the most. Compression garments help reduce swelling, improve circulation, and reduce fatigue.
What I’ve added
Methylene blue - This is a controversial topic, but research suggests methylene blue can help with jet lag.
Hydrogen water - I’ve written about the benefits of hydrogen water, and I’m more consistent with drinking it while traveling.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Activation - Recharging at the cellular level has never been easier. I wear the Bubble² and travel with the Kloud Mini to keep up my streak of daily sessions.
The Great Motor City
I made a short trip to Detroit, Michigan, to visit friends and celebrate a friend’s birthday. Of course, a trip to Detroit would not be complete without a stop for the original Detroit-style pizza at Buddy’s.
I stayed in Brighton, which is a suburb located west of Detroit. It was a fantastic area, though I must admit that Kensington Metropark has gone to the birds.
I paid my first visit to the Motown Museum, which showcases the fascinating history of American music released by the Motown label in the 1960s. Our tour guide, Aaron, brought history back to life, sharing great stories and explaining how Barry Gordy founded the record label, discovered many talented artists, and built a lasting musical empire. Fortunately, they had the foresight to preserve the historical buildings, including the original studio where the magic happened.
I capped off the visit with a Detroit Tigers game in style. This was my first time watching a game from a suite, and it was incredible. We had plenty of food (including unlimited hot dogs), drinks, and a view behind home plate.
Did I eat too much junk food? Sure. Did I compromise sleep to spend more time with people? Yes. I paused some habits to be fully present and enjoy the experience. This isn’t Be Healthy. It’s Be Wellthy. I write about habits, discipline, and optimizing health, but there’s more to life than meditation, sleep tracking, and minding everything you eat. So have the occasional pizza, cookie, slice of cake, and enjoy them guilt-free. You’ll take the hit the next day, remember the laughs, and say, “It was worth it.”
The Daily Habit is where I share my habits related to the fundamentals: sleep, diet, physical activity, mindfulness, and stress management.
You don’t have to go on vacation to have fun. Do something fun every day. Spread some joy for yourself and others.
