What I’m watching
The Pitt is a Max original series from John Wells, executive producer of ER and The West Wing, and starring Noah Wyle. Each episode of the show depicts an hour in real time for one shift at an inner-city hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. If you were a fan of ER or hospital dramas, you may consider this one, but be wary if you’re squeamish about accurate depictions of trauma in an emergency room.
What I’m reading
In Be Your Future Self Now, Dr. Benjamin Hardy presents a transformative approach to personal growth by emphasizing the power of envisioning and embodying your ideal future self in the present moment. Challenging the traditional belief that our past dictates our behavior, Hardy argues that a clear and compelling vision of who we aspire to become can actively shape our current actions and decisions. The book is organized into three parts: Part I, 7 Threats to Your Future Self, Part II, 7 Truths about Your Future Self, and Part III, 7 Steps for Being Your Future Self. Dr. Hardy uses great stories and examples to provide practical advice on how we can be the best version of ourselves, not at some unspecified point in the future, but NOW. This is my new favorite book to recommend to people because it helped me shift my mindset and reframe my relationship with myself. Shout out to subscriber Daniel K. for his recommendation.
What I’m listening to
Thanks to a vendor at the Health Optimization Summit, I learned about Libro.fm, an alternative to Amazon’s Audible that supports independent book stores. It works on the same premise: you pay a monthly fee for a credit and receive discounts on purchases. Even though I have a history of preferring podcasts to audiobooks, I consider podcasts more like junk food, so I choose to limit my snacking. The first book I started listening to on Libro.fm is Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch. Neale was experiencing a low period in his life when he decided to write a letter to God, venting his frustrations. What he did not expect was a response. As he finished his letter, he was moved to continue writing, and he received extraordinary answers to his questions. If you want a perspective on life’s biggest questions, you may find this one interesting.
